All too often in our daily lives we forget that we aren't alone. It's easy to go
day to day thinking that we are the only ones in our problems, that no one else could ever
understand what we're going through, that no one on this earth EVER felt as
terrible, or sad, or as disappointed as we may be feeling about something.
What is this bizarre thing that we do to ourselves that trains our brains to think like this?
Could it be explained by how detached our society has become due to our
electronic devices, privacy issues, and widespread lack of value teaching???
Whatever it is....WE DON'T ROLL LIKE THAT.
We love having our business in a quaint town where we have gotten to know our neighbors
and aren't afraid to talk to our fellow entrepreneurs about successes and failures. We
also love that as re-purposers and artists, we belong to a special group of people who
fancy themselves as, how shall I say... a "secret club" or a "little gang."
Well, in this gang, WE HAVE EACH OTHER'S BACKS!
Garrettsville, Ohio was home to a sweet little row of historic buildings that housed
thirteen small businesses including antique shops, a food bank,
and furniture shops just like our own Modern Vintage.
On March 22nd many people who we have come to know through our shop
lost EVERYTHING. Hours of work, materials, and the best of their creative
efforts wiped away in roaring flames.
One whole section of the downtown was engulfed
and destroyed by a fire that took a whopping 34 fire departments to put out.
As shop owners, this hit home with us HARD.
What if this tragedy had happened here, in our shop?
Were we prepared for that possibility? Could we survive?
We knew instantly that we wanted to help in some way, so reached out to our friends
and we'd like to introduce you to the newest addition in our shop...
Blue Cat Home
Travis and Tami are a husband and wife team who's fabulous creations were in
Chic and Shabby Resale Shop in Garrettsville. They combine a creative eye and
an amazing talent for beautiful finishes, and we are happy to be housing their
pieces for the summer (at least) in hopes that having an outlet
to sell will get them on their feet again.
We watch out for our peeps! ;)
Check out the first batch of items they brought us! We are in love with the COLOR
on this dresser, and with the unique mix of wall art and accessories!
Be sure to check out their Facebook page and give them a warm
welcome to the shop! We are SO HAPPY to have them!

There's something to be said for KINDNESS and for reaching out when people are in need.
There shouldn't ever be the question of "should"...
it should just be a DO. WE DO, and WE LOVE TO DO!
Who could you help out this week? Do you have a "gang" of good people in your life?
We hope so! If not, why not try creating some of that good for yourself,
it can only lead to BETTER!
Try to remember also, that everyone is human, and everyone has ups and downs.
It's how you react and treat each other that makes a difference in the end.
;)
Happy Spring, friends!
